WHAT IS STARS & STRIPERS?

Stars & Stripers Fly Fishing is an annual Eastern-shore charity fishing event for disabled veterans.

We held our 11th Annual event in August, 2023 at the Kent Island Yacht Club, Chester, Maryland.

​

Veterans are teamed with local fishing guides for a day of fly-fishing on the Chesapeake. We serve a hot breakfast at 0630 and follow the fishing with a crab feast and barbeque for all anglers, families, and volunteers.

In 2023 we hosted over 60 veterans on a 35+ fleet of boats. With their helpers, family members, guides and program volunteers our event is well over 200 people. Veterans come to us from Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing programs around Mid-Atlantic and East Coast area.

Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing is dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled active military service personnel and disabled veterans. PHWFF began in 2005, and has grown into a non-profit, tax-exempt 501(c)3 organization with 180+ chapters serving thousands of disabled veterans and active-duty military across the USA and around the world. 84% of donations go directly to the veterans.

Through PHWFF, veterans learn to adapt to new abilities as they tie their own flies, make their own rods, and (re)learn how to cast and fish. They meet weekly at local programs, and on weekends put their angling skills into practice at outings & events like the Stars & Stripers.

Stars & Stripers is entirely non-profit and all donations go directly to veteran support. Any proceeds remaining after the event will support Project Healing Waters and other Stars & Stripers events.

Guides, marinas and local watermen donate their boat time, and we run the event with unpaid volunteers. We are asking for tax-deductible donations to help us pay for food & catering costs, tents & equipment rental, and other event support costs.
